Toward Zero-Waste: Tyre Plastic Management Plan (TPMP)

Duration: 8 months (Until April/ May 2025)

Tyre Coast Nature Reserve (TCNR) is excited to launch the Tyre Plastic Management Plan (TPMP), a comprehensive zero-waste initiative that aims to drastically reduce plastic waste in the community, especially single-use plastics. This project leverages over five years of experience in plastic waste management to promote sustainable practices and empower local stakeholders.

Objectives:

  • Reduce Plastic Waste: Focus on limiting the use of single-use plastics.
  • Community Education: Raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on health and the environment.
  • Promote Eco-friendly Practices: Support the transition to a sustainable, circular economy.

Key Strategies:

  • Back to Roots Initiative: Revive traditional, plastic-free practices to reduce dependency on plastics.
  • Community Empowerment: Engage and train youth, women, and local businesses as eco-leaders to drive plastic-free practices.
  • Public Education Campaigns: Inform the community about plastic pollution through multimedia campaigns, workshops, and partnerships.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Environmental Impact: Reduction in plastic waste, leading to cleaner beaches and healthier marine ecosystems.
  • Economic Growth: Creation of eco-friendly jobs and support for green businesses.
  • Social Impact: Empowerment of local leaders, especially youth and women, to drive sustainable change.

Long-term Vision: Through community engagement, education, and support for eco-entrepreneurship, the TPMP aims to establish Tyre as a model for zero-waste living, contributing to a healthier environment and fostering a sustainable future.
